The Auto Value 250
Speedway 660 Sunday, September 4th
Johnny Clark to Defend,
Rowe with Unfinished
Business, Many Others with their own Plans!
|
Speedway 660 Press
Release - Fredericton, NB - Johnny
Clark, based on last year's performance and the
season he has had to date would arguably be the man
to beat heading into this weekends Auto Value 250.
But there are several teams heading to the Geary
woods this weekend that have different plans. The
biggest name in modern stock car racing in the
Northeast, Ben Rowe has some unfinished business at
the Auto Value 250 and is retuning to see what he
can do about that. - |
After
missing his heat race in 2010 due to a motor change,
Rowe won his consi and was heading to the front
early in the 250 we he was involved in a wreck that
ended his day. “We had a great car last year and the
team worked their tails off to change that motor on
Sunday morning. I cant wait to take another crack at
these guys and that Auto Value 250 trophy!”. Rowe is
fresh of his win in the Atlantic Cat 250 and is a
four time PASS North Champion as well as a two time
winner of the Oxford 250. Rowe will again pilot a
car prepared by O’Neal Racing crew, the same car
Sterling Marlin entered in the 2009 event.
Johnny Clark is also no stranger to Speedway 660
victory lane. Johnny is a two time Auto Value 250
champion and most recently captured the PASS 200
victory at Speedway 660 on June 11th. In victory
lane that day Johnny made his intentions clear when
asked if he would be returning to compete in the
2011 Auto Value 250, “Are you kidding me, I love
this place and I love the 250. You bet I’ll be
here”.
The list of potential winners goes on
and on with this event. Whether its two time
Champion Lonnie Sommerville who has been competing
full time on the PASS North Series this year, 2010
Parts for Trucks Tour Champion and former Auto Value
250 winner, Shawn Tucker, three-time Speedway 660
Champion Greg Fahey, 2008 winner Craig Slaunwhite,
multi-time runner up Travis Benjamin, Wayne Smith,
John Flemming, and on and on. |

5th at OXFORD |
|
 |
After
avoiding contact in a heat incident that did
considerable damage to the #4 of Ben Rowe, Johnny
started 12th in the feature as a previous race
winner. Having made steady progress through the
field, Johnny was battling Joey Pole #97 for fourth
when Pole's #97 went wide in three taking Johnny up
to the third lane and the marbles.
Lonnie
Sommerville #48 saw the opening on the bottom and went low
to put them three wide (above). Johnny kept his foot
down and kept it straight down the frontstretch.
Johnny got by Pole to finish 5th while Lonnie
passed Patrick Laperle #91 for third behind Kyle
Busch #51 and Cassius Clark #8. |

The Southern
Maine Motors PASS 150 |
 |
2nd Place at
Beech Ridge |
The Southern
Maine Motors 150 was certainly an action packed
evening at Beech Ridge for Johnny. In the heat,
Johnny moved low to make a pass in turn three only
to find the #88 twitch back to the left. The #54
went up and over the front fender of the #88 and
both spun to the inside grass. Back on the asphalt,
the #54 was driving well so Johnny continued on in
the heat and picked up a couple of spots. Before the
feature, the crew checked the car out and discovered
only body damage.
Starting from 17th, Johnny
was moving towards the front and had missed spinning
cars in the first two cautions. Then on the restart
on lap 37, a late green triggered a melee that sent
a bunch of cars into the main straight wall just
after the flag stand. Johnny cut to the left to
avoid the pile up but caught a car in the left rear
bumper cover sending it into the mess. But again
no critical damage to the #54.
With half the
field either out of the race or slowed with damage,
Johnny was now in the top seven and running well.
The #54 raced right up to the leaders, but Lonnie
Sommerville #48 and Ben Rowe #4 were stronger and
pulled away in the closing laps for 1st and 2nd.
However, post race inspection of the top cars
found a rear deck lid height infraction on the #4,
and Ben was dropped from 2nd to 5th (the last car on
the lead lap) and fined 25 points. Johnny
therefore moves back into the PASS North point lead
with a 17 point margin. |

8th Place after late
race tangles
On a wild
night when all but maybe one car
spun, crashed, or pitted for some
problem, Johnny was running in
second on lap 146 when he was
knocked off track by a tangle
caused by a flat tire.
Starting from 11th under the rules
as a 2011 race winner, Johnny
settled into a steady run as Richie
Dearborn in the #33 led from the
green flag. Scott Chubbuck #77
followed by Johnny passed Dearborn
into first and second on lap 142.
Dearborn then got knocked into a
spin by the #17 of Travis Benjamin.
On the outside front for the
restart, Johnny was being challenged
by the #97 of Joey Pole when
Chubbuck had a tire go down in turn
two and take Johnny with him into
the outside dirt. Heavy damage to
the nose of the #54 on the hard hit
to the #77. Johnny went a lap down
trying to get going and immediatedly
pitted for stabilization of the
damage.
On that restart
Johnny was getting up to speed when
Dearborn had a spin in turn three
from a flat. On that yellow Johnny
received the Lucky Dog free lap and
pulled around to the end of the
pack.
After the final
green-white-checker restart, Johnny
made it up to an 8th place finish.
Ben Rowe in the #4, with damage from
four hits and a flat right rear,
amazingly made it across the line in
2nd to take an 8 point lead in the
standings over Johnny, 441 to 433. |

JOHNNY TAKES THE WIN!
Johnny had a
nice start to the 2011 PASS North
season taking the win at the Beech
Ridge opener, leading the most
laps from his pole position start
position earned by his heat win.
But the feature win was far from
easy. First Travis Benjamin in the
#17 challenged the #54 until slowed
by mechanical problems. Then a hard
charging Derek Ramstrom #35 took the
lead on lap 113 only to pit with a
broken left front shock. Trevor
Sanborn #29 then held the led for a
few laps. Johnny regained the lead
on a lap 120 restart.
As
Johnny stretched out his advantage,
a pack of five cars fought for
second. The #7 of Donnie Whitten,
who hard started from dead last and
had also survived a lap 101 spin
after a tap by a lapped car, finally
broke free of the bunch and went
after the #54.
Giving the
fans a great show, Donnie pulled
within two car lengths of Johnny at
the checker. Ben Rowe put the #4
into 3rd. Lonnie Sommerville in the
#48 was 4th. |

15th Place Finish at "THE RACE"
From the pole,
Johnny jumped into a three car lead at
the green. Easing back to save the tires for
the long 100 lap segments, the #54 ran most
of the race in the Top 10. Passing Ryan
Blaney #10, Johnny moved into the 6th slot
on the scoreboard on lap 182. In the final
caution-free 100 lap segment, the car faded
and Johnny slipped back, lapped by the
leaders - Chris Eggleston #08 and Bubba
Pollard #18 - about 20 laps from the finish. Full listing at

Johnny Clark: The Maine Money Man
History Shows Clark Will Be
a Factor No Matter What
By Elgin
Traylor
"When there is a
big check nearby in the northern Super Late
Model world, time has shown that there’s a good
chance Johnny Clark will be holding it at the
end of the race. The five-time PASS Champion has
won some of the biggest shows around the
Northeast and taken home some big cash in the
process. With "THE RACE," an at least $75,000 to
win event at North Wilkesboro Speedway (NC) this
Saturday, the oddsmakers put him as a heavy
favorite based on his past. "

at Dillon went well with Johnny setting the fast
time of the day at 15.709 sec. in the first session. |

bad for practice at the historic 5/8th mile North Wilkesboro
