With his third-place finish Johnny felt hed
had shown substantial improvement over the
May '23 TRoad race where he placed 7th.
The #54 had much better handling and much
better speed than in the prevous outing. |

When Joey Doiron blew the motor in the #73d,
Johnny loaned him the JCM backup car
which was renumbered #51. Joey raced to a
second place finish with Johnny right
behind in 3rd place.

With his fourth-place finish, Johnny logged
his seventh top five finish in the historic
race. Clark has now made 17 starts in the
event as he qualified for his 11th straight
during the 50th Annual Oxford 250 weekend.
The seven top-five runs moved Clark into a
tie for second with Dave Dion and Dick
McCabe.
Qualifying in heat four was
quite a challenge. The six former winners in
the single race had to be a record for the
most number of winners in one single
qualification period. Johnny was 5th. (The
250 winners were Mike Rowe, Ben Rowe, Eddie
MacDonald, Cassius Clark, Jeremie Worff, and
Johnny)
Even though the #54 was good in the
heat, Johnny pitted about 11 minutes in to
250 to make adjustments to the track
conditions.
He then cut his way from
41st to the front, patiently waiting for the
right opportunities and avoiding car
contacts.
The two cars Johhny battled
for the lead had also come all the way
through the pack. Joey Doiron #73d has
started 41st with a provisional. Scoring
back-to-back 250 wins, Cole Butcher #53 had
been in a tangle on lap 6 and had been put
to the very back.
Fighting Dorion's
#73d, Johnny led lap #209 at the line.
But in the closing laps, the handling
went tight, and the #54 slid back to 4th at
the end for another record tying Top 5
finish.

in practice but had no handling in the race. |

13th Place Finish |
After posting front of the pack times in
practice, the handling of the #54 softened
during the race, and Johnny had all he could
do to score a 13th place finish and be the
final car on the lead lap in a field of 31
Super Late Models. |
