3rd at OPS
A solid run to
3rd battling Dennis Spencer #12 and Curtis
Geery #7g with tires fading. After starting
12th, Johnny ran up to 5th before being
caught in the much slower outside lane on a
restart and being shuffled back to 14th. On
the move again the #54 charged up to second
as the pace set by Spencer demanded careful
tire management. With this finish Johnny has
has taken the points championship in the
PASS SLM New England North 2021 tour
division.

A nice run from

top five in the first half of the race when
the #54 suffered extreme tire wear.
Right down to the cords at race end. No

A great car.
Moving up from previous winner's mid-pack
starting position. Into second and then a
tangle with the #5 of Dillon Moltz resulting
in a spin on the main straight. Back up
through the pack once again. Great battle
with Joey Doiron in the #16 to take 3rd in
the closing laps. DJ Shaw in the #60 takes
the win and holds the New England South
points lead. Big points advantage for the
#54 in the PASS North Overall and the New
England North sub-series.

JOHNNY CLARK 2nd at
OPS |
Race
Report by Zach Evans, Speed51.com
-- Dave Farrington, Jr. is picking up
where he left off at Oxford Plains Speedway
in 2020, backing up a runner-up finish in
the Oxford Championship Series season opener
Saturday with a win with the Pro All Stars
Series on Sunday.
Farrington, the
defending track champion at the historic
Maine venue, flexed his muscle in the
150-lap Sunday feature, ultimately winning
by more than two seconds over defending
Oxford 250 champion Johnny Clark.
With things going so well for Farrington at
Oxford, the only thing he wants to do is
keep the momentum rolling.
"We don't
want to change a thing.," Farrington said.
"I'm happy to win here in the month of
April. Obviously, last year August was our
month. Consistency, week after week, winning
six of the last nine races here is pretty
dang impressive. It's put a target on our
back, probably more than we'd like to have."
Early in the race, Farrington was
content to ride behind Travis Benjamin and
Joey Doiron as they battled side-by-side for
the top spot. Once he was able to get around
them near the halfway mark, however, he led
the rest of the distance. All along,
Farrington wanted to lead early and often.
"We wanted to get going there in the
early part of the race there, when the 7
(Benjamin) and the 21 (Doiron) were playing
cat-and-mouse, I guess. We just wanted to
get out there and run."
Clark
finished in the runner-up spot, continuing a
strong start to the 2021 PASS North season.
With a seventh-place finish at the Thompson
Icebreaker and a win at the Northeast
Classic at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, he
has established himself as an early-season
championship favorite.
Marching
towards a record-breaking seventh PASS North
championship, Clark is relishing a
resurgence as a top-notch competitor in the
Northeast Super Late Model world.
"It
feels good. We started 11th because we won
at Loudon. Sometimes it helps to start that
far back because you get to run your own
race and don't worry about everybody else,
trying to hold position.
"There were
a couple of restarts where they'd call the
green. You can pull to the right and I never
passed before the line but no one would go.
It's Oxford, there's three grooves here. One
time I went from eighth to fourth. All of a
sudden it was fun, it's fun again. It feels
so good to be relevant and competitive
again." |

JOHNNY CLARK WINS
THE NORTHEAST CLASSIC |
PASS/ACT RACE REPORT:
In the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super
Late Model National Championship race at the
Northest Classic, Hallowell, ME's Johnny
Clark got his first "Magic Mile" win after a
50-lap barnburner. Clark, the multi-time
PASS champion and reigning Oxford 250
winner, first grabbed the lead from Turner,
ME's Ben Rowe on lap eight. Clark paced the
field until the caution flag on lap 24 for
Zig Geno's spin, which saw polesitter
Brandon Barker get the jump on the restart.
After a competition caution on lap 30
for two fresh tires and adjustments, the
action really heated up. The yellow came
back out two circuits later for debris, and
on this restart, Derek Griffith made a
three-wide move entering turn to take over
the point. In the process, 11-time NHMS
winner Eddie MacDonald got shuffled out of
second spot just as he looked ready to
challenge for the victory.
Jeff White
then spun on the backstretch with 12 laps to
go for the fourth and final caution. This
time, it was Griffith getting shuffled as
Barker again leapt off the outside. Barker
led the 39th circuit before Herman, ME's
Mike Hopkins -- who'd started dead-last in
the 25-car field -- blew underneath him to
pace lap 40.
Once again, Windham,
ME's Barker found a way back to the front,
going around Hopkins entering turn one the
very next time around. Clark followed Barker
and looked multiple times to his inside over
the next six laps. With four laps to go,
Clark got the run he needed off turn two.
The veteran snatched the lead entering turn
three and then slammed the door on Barker's
crossover attempt. Clark, Barker, Hopkins,
and D.J. Shaw then ran under a blanket until
the final lap, when Hopkins' bid for second
let Clark scoot away for the victory.
Although Hopkins came up short of second
on the track, he inherited the spot in
post-race technical inspection when Baker
was disqualified for an engine infraction.
Shaw became the new third-place finisher.
Jeremie Whorff, Ben Rowe, Dennis Spencer,
Jake Matheson, Alex Labbe, Griffith, and Rowland
Robinson Jr. finished fourth through 10th. |
