Beech Ridge - September 30, 2006 - 8th
PASS finally found a beautiful day to
run the remainder of the 400 Weekend on a single day,
Saturday 9/30.
Johnny started 13th and was running in
14th - right in the middle of all the action - when The Big Wreck happened on the main
straight. As the 8t coming out of four slowed with a flat, the car following, the 7w, ran
over his right rear, got airborne, and then wound up on the hood of the 29d. Johnny had
been right behind the 29d and the 8. Cassius in the 8 and Corey in the 47 spun to the
right and hit the main straight wall hard, with a follow-up T-bone of Corey by the 7 of
Curtis Gerry. Dion the 29d and Scott Mulkern the 84 continued with fender damage but the
rest were eliminated. Johnny had just driven down the center and barely missed it all.
Johnny settled in to run 5th or 6th,
with a drop to 10th after a pit stop. Ben Rowe in the #4 was flying up front and lapped
just about every car in the field. After a pit stop, the #54 was a lap down and now in
14th. Johnny ran the race from 10th to 6th with most of the laps in 7th place. The #54
just couldn't hold off a couple of cars near the end and finished 8th.
Mike Rowe finished 5th and had a 2nd in his heat on 9/24. But Johnny still holds
onto first in the points standings with 2125 markers to Mike's 2115.
Another PASS weekend has been
disrupted by rain and now two more days will be needed for the PASS 400 Weekend(s) at
Beech Ridge. Saturday the 23rd was a complete washout and only the heats were completed -
barely- on Sunday the 24th. So consis are some support races as on for 6 PM Friday the
29th, and the features including the 300 will be Noon Sunday the 30th.
Johnny started from the back of the
pack in Heat #1 and had to take his time moving up. Diving into the smoke of the spinning
#9 was a little bit of extra excitement. Beech Ridge is a track where a couple of cars
running side-by-side can back up following cars. Johnny made up to fifth at the checkers
just short of catching Dave Dion at the line. The top five transferred to the feature so
Johnny is all set for the 300.
