Once again the Clark
brothers turned a so-so car into second place finisher. In practice, the #54 was a tick or
two off on speed and also no getting off the corners well enough to comfortable passing. A
bunch of changes made an improvement and Johnny posted a 19.809 for 7th spot in time
trials. The Heats and Dash were eliminated to speed the show along and beat the rain. The
top ten drew for starting spots and Johnny landed up in 10th. At the green, the #54 began a slow march forward. Johnny was lucky in being
one spot ahead of a multi-car pile up in turn one that suddenely left the #47 of Louie
Mechalides and the #34 of Ted Christopher totaled.
Up to 8th by lap 30 (counting 100 greens plus 24
yellow laps), 6th at lap 51, 5th at lap 58, 4th at lap 61, 3rd at 96, Johnny moved into
second only six laps from the end. After Cassius Clark tapped Ben Rowe and loosened him up
in turn four, Johnny took 2nd as Ben lost his momentum.
Then it was a race to beat the rain drops which started coming down during the last
lap. On the cool off lap, Johnny gave Cassius a little tap to congratulate him on his
second PASS win and caught the exhaust pipes on the #8 and ripped up his tire - which
explains the flat in victory lane.
Another fine points-earning performance for Johnny
